Originally released in 1998 death metalers Disbelief's second album gets a re-release from the people at Metal Mind Productions. Using the newest tube technology to enrich the already thick sound of this band, the heaviness that results will push you to the limits. The gargantuan rhythm section with pummeling bass of Joe Trunk and the relentless pounding of Kai Bergerin on drums will do a tap dance on your central nervous system. This is one of the densest sounding almost suffocating style of playing to be found and this update only enhances the feeling.
The band is known for its ability to produce a massive sound and blending it with a groove that will remind you of 80's style heavy metal with a good dose of thrashy goodness. Guitarists Tommy Fritsch and Oliver Lenz are the main culprits to blame for this and you can hear their musical influences throughout the disc. "Mindstrip" is a prime example which will remind you of countless Bay area thrashers especially when singer Karsten Jager switches from his snarling delivery to clean vocals.
The oppressive feel of the band really comes to the forefront when they slow things down like on the songs "First" and "Without a Kiss". Both of these songs ooze more than they flow and when the time is right to submerge yourself the density of these bits of death metal goo are thick enough to keep anything from penetrating.
This is not going to be everyone's cup of tea but the doomers and the old school death metalers will find something here to sink their teeth into. I might pull this one out now and then but it will never be a steady diet.
