ConcertsSteve Hackett: Genesis Revisited/Seconds Out & More (The Egg, Albany, NY

Posted on Tuesday, April 12 2022 @ 14:05:17 CDT by Pete Pardo
Progressive Rock Steve Hackett has been carrying the old Genesis torch for years with his Genesis Revisited tours. This past Sunday April 10, 2022, Steve and his band came to Albany’s Hart Theater at The Egg and thrilled the sold out crowd playing the classic live album “Seconds Out”.

The band opened with a short set of Hackett’s solo material including “Clocks”, “Every Day” and closed with a rousing “Shadow of the Hierophant”. After a short break, the band returned to play the “Seconds Out” album in its entirety, and the crowd was completely engaged. Lead vocalist Nad Sylvan has been with Steve’s band for a number of years, and does an amazing job with these songs. The two other long term members Rob Townsend (sax, flute, percussion, keys & vocals) is the bands secret weapon, and Roger King (Keyboards) has that Tony Banks stage demeanor, although you will catch a smile from him every so often. The rhythm section of Jonas Reingold (bass, guitar, vocals) and Craig Blundell were thunderous together. My favorite moments included the spectacular “Firth of Fifth”, and I was completely enthralled during “Supper’s Ready” which was immediately followed up with “The Cinema Show”.

The band came out for an encore of “Dance on a Volcano”, followed up by an intense Drum Solo from Craig Blundell, during which the drum set appeared to be in danger of toppling off its riser. The band closed with Los Endos and a bit of Steve Hackett’s “Slogans” was mixed in for good measure. I have been to many Steve Hackett concerts over the years, but I was particularly struck by how passionate the crowd was during the show. The band received numerous standing ovations, and gave us all we could have asked for. Mr. Hackett deserves all the praise he gets, he loves and treasures these songs. On this night, I think the fans let Steve know just how much he is appreciated.
