Progressive Rock To quote Julius Caesar (sort of), “they came, they saw, they conquered”. Stick Men steamrolled a sold out audience this past Friday night at the Linda in Albany NY. Brutal, Beautiful, Intense, and Inspired are the words that best describe the bands performance. The trio of musicians (Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Markus Reuter) create a wall of sound, it is amazing that a trio can produce such a full and rich musical experience, but we are talking about true pros at work.

The show kicked off with the title track from 2016’s “Prog Noir” and from there they proceeded to pummel the crowd with their muscular blend of intricate and powerful music. There was something special going on this night, and even Tony Levin made mention of the fact that the band now had a few shows under their belt and were hitting their stride. The band then launched into “Ringtone” from the newly released “Tentacles” EP and the crowd was in the palm of their hand. The trio are a pleasure to watch, as Levin and Reuter conjure other worldly sounds from their multi-stringed instruments, and Mastelotto keeps the train moving at full speed. Two more new tracks were featured in the set, “Danger in the Workplace” and the title track. As you might expect, they treated the crowd to some Crimson classics such as “Red’ and “Level 5”. The encore dug into the Crimson catalogue with “The Sheltering Sky” and “Larks Tongues in Aspic: Part 2”. Make the effort to see Stick Men, you’ll be glad you did!
