ConcertsGrand Magus & Primitai @ NQ Live, Manchester UK 2/26/2013

Heavy Metal The venue is compact and packed out for this midweek gig by a band that has elevated themselves through sheer hard work and constant touring.

With a local support that I sadly missed I was told they were a doomy affair who went down quite well. Primitai are well suited to this classic rock/Scandinavian appreciating audience, their 80's infused hard rock/metal attack pierces firmly in its target. With a sound that's difficult to pinpoint I feel it's a positive, Guy Millers vocals are superb and strong even though he's feeling the effects of road flu. The twin guitars feed off each other and the packed house loves it and for good reason, Guy hurls himself on the barrier baiting the audience to join his chanting anthems. With some really catchy melodies with enough bite to please any metal head, Primitai have won over the crowd and myself. Flying the flag for British metal, their latest album 'Line Of Fire' is represented well tonight. If you want galloping anthems Primitai tick all the boxes, go check them out you'll be glad you did.

The three pronged attack of Grand Magus is majestic. Since my first visit to the Magus country I was hooked by the sheer sound three guys make. Airing tracks from their latest masterpiece 'The Hunt' they kick off with 'Sword Of The Ocean'. JB has really embraced his mountain man look with a full thick beard and hair to match. Tonight Grand Magus sound magnificent and the crowd who braved the cold are certainly heating up the venue and chanting along to 'Starlight Slaughter' and 'Iron will'. Fox and Ludde are tight and urgent in their delivery while the venue reaches boiling point. A slight intermission for a spot of solo tub thumping and we soon get back on track with 'Hammer Of The North'. JB is clearly overwhelmed by the rapturous crowd response as we all chant along with the chorus, JB thanking all who braved the weather to be here. Grand Magus have been on one hell of a ride the past few years, they are one band that deserves massive success, tonight was the reason why I drove 120 miles to see them….truly awesome!
