ConcertsHell – The Greatest Show On Earth, 2/23/2013

Posted on Sunday, March 24 2013 @ 11:11:40 CDT by Pete Pardo
Heavy Metal This show at Derby Assembly Rooms in the UK sold out months ago, and for good reason, Hell has a reputation for putting on something special every time they play.

Tonight we got the whole 9 yards, fire, brimstone and enough pyro to keep the Health & Safety man with one hand on the defibrillator and the other on the fire extinguisher. This was truly a majestic affair; it was a SHOW, something that could be compared to Heavy Metal Broadway or The West End. Front man David Bower brings his classically trained mannerisms to the fore and is a consummate performer. The atmosphere was infernal unlike the weather; this was one event you just had to be part of. The NWOBHM flavored guitar attack of Kev Bower & and the newly short cropped hair of Andy Sneap (which a certain Sabbat band member commented made him look like a Heavy Metal Jason Donovan!) were simply stunning.

Preaching from the pulpit adorned with a crown of thorns, and an appearance from a Minotaur it was perfection, their stunning album 'Human Remains' is still strong and powerful live. Tonight was all about the theatrics and we got it all, something a lot of bands could take heed from. Contingents from all over the world had travelled to be here tonight and I'm sure they left happy as did we all. With a specialty brew of real ale just for the event on sale a few people maybe overindulged in its 6.66% strength. Like the band it was also a special brew at this one off event, the effects many are still feeling even now.

Tonight Hell came home to Derby and conquered, they could have sold out two nights such was the demand for tickets. It just goes to prove if you do something well and do it right you will reap the rewards…I look forward to a new album.

(The whole gig was filmed and will be available as a double pack with their next album release).

Mark Davies.
