Noctiferia: Death Culture

Gee, looks like I found another great disc buried in my promo stack! Death Culture is more like their label's name, listenable! And me who was expecting some generic death brutality! Noctiferia just gave me a hell of a cool extreme metal ride!

Death Culture is not a pure death or black metal album. It actually combines raspy vocals with moderate tempos and good crunchy music. This is a very powerful disc where a pounding rhythmic section is backing up a wicked, twisted and somewhat progressive edge making Death Culture a hellishly great opus. I was wondering if the guys could keep up the good times and the answer is yes. Oh, and I forgot to mention that powerhouse of juicy crushingness also involves ambient /epic keyboards that adds to the overall feel. Noctiferia is made of talented musicians, so both the playing and songwriting are excellent. In a couple spots I felt they were going the wrong way though. On "Demoncracy", the keys show a tad of techno edge and I was expecting something industrial to pop up, but it did not. Later on, "Non Individuum", they choose a core type of beat and vocals; which was a turn off for me. At least they did not fall into the screamer core vs. clean vocals trap, as the crushing guitar work was still present, so this band won't appear on Nuclear Blast's roster!

Death Culture brought home a kicking opus filled with excellent compositions that include: "Delluders & Followers", "Demoncracy", "Rust" and Holymen"
