Worignition are a young up and coming melodic Death Metal band out of Montréal Canada. Barely two years into what by all accounts looks to be a very promising future this quintet consisting of vocalist Michel Lussier, bassist James McCallum, drummer Jonathan Drolet and the twin axe team of Marc Favreau and Julien Rousseau, swiftly dropped this four song nuclear warhead entitled Embrace the Apocalypse on the world at large towards the middle of 2009.
"Wasteland" and the title track "Embrace The Apocalypse" are a lethal one- two punch combination full of brutally complex guitar riffs and soaring solos that are as melodic as they are intricate. The absolutely punishing rhythm section is driven by Drolet's machine gun fire drum blasts while Michel Lussier does a splendid job throughout alternating between harsh sounding screams and guttural growls.
The tempo is brought down ever so slightly on the third track "Judgment Day" which opens with a bit of acoustic guitar and a hint of keyboards before the floodgates are quickly kicked wide open. The intro theme reappears in the middle breakdown section of the song just before Marc Favreau rips off a brief but scorching solo. Closing track "Shot in the Face" is an uncompromising three minute assault that comes with more massive sounding, chugging guitar riffs and deeply layered grooves.
Embrace the Apocalypse is certainly an impressive opening statement from these talented newcomers. If you like technical, melodic Death Metal then you should definitely hit up their myspace site and check out what they're all about because I have a feeling we're going to be hearing a lot more from Worignition in the very near future.
Note: As I write this the band is currently in the studio working on their full length debut with Cryptopsy's Chris Donaldson.
