In 2005 the folk metal band from Denmark named Svartsot was created, and they would go on to record their debut Ravnenes Saga, but Svartsot then incurred a significant hurdle that could have very well resulted in the bands demise. With the exception of guitarist Cris J.S. Frederiksen, all other members were to depart. So Cris was left behind with the daunting task of seeking out a new line-up, and his determination to keep this band alive paid off. Together with this band of new and talented recruits Svartsot's music now continues with the release of Mulmets Viser.
New vocalist Thor Bagist growls his way through Mulmets Viser's brawny folk tales, as Thor's varied vocals on "Havfruens Kvad" really add to this heavy tunes catchy guitar work. A highlight of Mulmets Viser are the contributions of Hans-Jorgen Martinus Hansen with whistles, accordion and mandolin which do sound fantastic, like when he duplicates the guitar passages on "Den svarte Sot".
Mulmets Viser is a compelling Svartsot style folk album. Cris J.S. Frederiksen and his new-found colleagues have returned with a triumphant CD.
