Vitreus: No Shadows Without Light

Some six years since their formation, Spanish doom-mongers Vitreus finally unleash their debut six track demo in the form of No Shadows Without Light. This is something of a mixed bag and the band are seemingly still at the experimentation stage of their development which given the time they have been around would indicate a work-rate to rival that of Tom Scholz or Peter Gabriel. Skip past the lightweight opener "Benighted Existence" and you are headlong into early Opeth / Katatonia territory with the melancholic dirge of "Metaphorically Forgotten" and the title track, both of which are characterised by guttural growls and raw solos.

The Gothic Horror of the closing "Dark Walls" suggest another alternate path for the band and a skip around their MySpace site is best advised before diving straight in.
