With their third release, Florida based Brutality turned the corner and found a new direction in the world of death metal. With a new guitar section and a different attitude, the band took a huge step forward with this disc.
The thing that struck me first was how much the pair of Dana Walsh and Peter Sykes push their six string limits. Brutal riffing that leads to some dynamic solos wrapped around the growling snarl of Scott Reigel, highlight the album. There seems to be a much more focused vision on this release than their previous efforts and the outcome is a real good slice of death metal history.
They might have got lost in 90's shuffle of death metal bands but that doesn't mean they were a lesser unit. These guys really bring it on this release and the work on songs like "The Past", "Destroyed By Society" and "Subjected To Torture" are classic! Each guitar solo is a gritty piece that takes you down into the depths of the dark and cold world that they choose to inhabit.
I don't travel down the death metal path too often, usually because so much of it seems to be cut from the same piece of cloth. I might make the trip more often if I can find groups like Brutality, who seem to use a different tailor than the rest!
