Violent Playground: Violent Playground (EP)

Four piece from Liverpool who have been receiving considerable acclaim for their live shows, Violent Playground release this three track EP that provides an ideal showcase of their bright and vibrant sound. "Matter" opens with a gentle melody and catchy refrain that highlights a sparkling solo from guitarist Carl Anderson. Funky, up-tempo rocker "Mob Rules" is extremely well structured and, were it backed by a big record company budget, would doubtless be in regular rotation on the airwaves; again the solo is top-drawer. The altogether more melancholic "Dusk" offers a nice contrast with its haunting vibe and driving riff at the breakdown that sees the band flex their collective muscles. The only complaint is that it is over far too quickly.

One band you can expect to hear much more from.
