This is one album I have been hanging out for, especially after their great Progressive Metal debut. In fact, it was one of the best Progressive debuts I have ever heard. Putting their own modern spin on the Progressive genre, at times their performance delivers a dash of pop- like sensibility. Amid the vast list of exciting Progressive Metal bands, any positive variance in the formula is welcome and has to be an advantage, assisting the music of Venturia to stand out. I was never a big fan of the now defunct radio friendly Australian group Savage Garden, but the vocals do remind me of that band, whilst the musicianship given the different music style is obviously in another league.
The stirring vocal performances of duo Marc Ferreira and Lydie Robin is quite more balanced this time around with more input from Lydie, supported with the substantial talents of the versatile Diego Rapacchietti whom exhibits many complex patterns on drums, just check out "Sublimated Dementia". Then there's the spirited bass of Thomas James, and laying down the heaviness and multiple hooks like on "Be The One" is guitarist Charly Sahona, topped of with a slice of well matched keyboards.
Also of note there is a special version of Hybrid available on Lion Music with a bonus DVD, included within is a short but enjoyable live performance. As I suspected would be the case, Venturia has released a catchy fitting follow up effort with Hybrid, continuing to deliver the same high level performance this French act demonstrated on The Lost Kingdom. Venturia are indeed a fine band, one of my favorites infact. So if you are a progressive music fan or just enjoy skillfully executed music and you haven't done so already, then take the time to sample Venturia's music. I'm off for another listen.
