This is a remastered, re-release of Withered Beauty's self titled debut from 1998. I didn't know what to expect, I thought maybe I was in for some gothic metal given the cover art, but once the intensity of track "Lies" comes bursting through there's no mistaking the sounds of death/black metal.
Withered Beauty dished out some extreme metal on this album, intense drumming at breakneck speed from Daniel Bryntse whom also contributed guitars and vocals, then there is Magnus Bjork with guitars and vocals, as well as Tobias Bjorklund on bass and vocals. Anders Bjork makes a guest appearance providing the piano and keyboards requirements.
There are lighter times to be heard such as the guitar instrumental "Through Silent Skies", but Withered Beauty promptly transforms back into the predominantly aggressive heavy mode of the album, with "Twilight Dreaming" a track incorporating several tempo changes.
Not a lot of information can be found on Withered Beauty. From what I have read the band hasn't been active with no releases for many years, so this re-release may be the last we hear from them.
