Virtually unheard of in the United States, Viking Skull is ready to set their sites on bashing craniums all over the 50 states with their third release; Doom Gloom Heartache & Whiskey. With a menacing attitude and both feet firmly planted in the beer soaked, hell raising territory occupied by the likes of Black Label Society, these heavy metal Englanders (with one import from across the pond) are the type that makes you want to lock the liquor cabinet and hide your daughter cause debauchery and general chaos is what they bring!
High powered and energized to the max, the snarling vocals of Roddy Stone are enough to give Lemmy a run for his money. When you add to that the double barreled guitar firepower this band has in their arsenal, all the elements to keep the well inebriated headbangers in his version of heavy metal heaven. While they do manage to bring back the feel of old school metal, it does seem to become a bit redundant before the album reaches it's very adolescent message in the ending ode to stupidity "Drink".
While it may be their best effort and does have some good moments, the overall album is still nothing more than a very good bar band at their alcohol fueled best. I am sure that many a morning hangover will be greeted by this disc still spinning in the player.
