Violent Force: Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow (remaster)

Serviceable yet dated thrash rarity from 1988, Violent Force's Malevolent Assault of Tomorrow, originally released on Roadrunner, now sees the remaster/reissue treatment from Poland's Metal Mind Productions. Speed, speed, and more speed was the name of the game for these German metalheads, as they chose to stay away from the more technical and groove-laden sounds of their American counterparts, instead going for all-out blasts of frenzied double bass drum fills and rapid picked guitar riffs ala fellow Germans Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction. The results are mediocre at best, occasionally veering into inspired territory as on the crushing "Soulbursting", "Sign of Evil", and the mashing instrumental "What About The Time After?". All too often though these tracks sound alike, and the vocals of Lemmy are delivered with no variety, the drumwork too predictable, and the guitar riffing pedestrian. Still, one can see how this one and only release from the band might hold something special to 80's thrash fans who had to get their hands on every genre album that came out that decade. Come to think of it, I was one of them for a spell. Metal Mind has done a good job here, despite the muddy and raw sound of the original recording they have managed to clean it up somewhat, and there's full lyrics and an essay on the band's history.
