Amen's 1999 debut on Roadrunner Records was somewhat of a stylisting shift for the label that heavily promoted death metal bands for so long. These guys were at their core an angry punk band, but they had enough metal attitude to appeal to heavy rockers, especially those into more thought-provoking acts like Warrior Soul and Rage Against the Machine. Musically, Amen brought the good to the table, as these tunes are chock full of meaty guitar riffs, fuzz-toned bass grooves, and pounding drums. Not to be outdone is singer Casey Chaos, who adds in plenty of manic screams, tortured shouts, anguished groans, and lazy clean passages along the way. Best tracks here are "Come America" and "No Cure For the Pure", as well as the funky metal number "When A Man Dies A Woman", but honestly, you can have a good time with just about anyting on this one. Picture the Red Hot Chile Peppers if they went metal, and you get a good idea of what to expect on this one. As an added bonus on this reissue you get four bonus tracks originally only available on a rare EP. Worth checking out if you are into this sort of thing.
