Nidsang: The Mark of Death

Don't expect any subtlety on the latest from Sweden's Nidsang, titled The Mark of Death. This is raw, unadulterated black metal, littered with harsh, screaming vocals, crashing rhythms, and razor sharp guitar riffs. 38 minutes of aggression, that rarely lets up, save for a few brief moments of atmosphere, like at the beginning of the otherwise blistering "Dawn of the New Era", and the spooky instrumental "Vindar fran Helvetet". Although some of the songs tend to sit at a mid-tempo format, there are a number of blast beat maniacs here, like "The Mark of Death", "Atra Mors", the old school "Rising Horns", and the frenzied final two pieces "Lamb" and "Whither and Die". At times Nidsang comes across as a poor man's Dark Funeral, and while they do need to add a bit more variety to their music, the raw production and intensity level makes this a pretty enjoyable slice of necro black metal that will certainly send a chill up the spine of any non-believer.
