Poorly produced guitars, relentless blast beats, and evil screams, all make up the sounds you will hear on Rest in Pieces by Blasphemous Creation. Basically a 6-song EP clocking in at less than 20 minutes, the band churns out a manic, speedy brand of death & black metal that is high on energy but lacking on overall execution. With names like Fleshgrinder (guitars/vocals), Soul Reaper (bass), Corpseripper (rhythm guitar), and Bonecrusher (drums), the guys in Blasphemous Creation are trying to look and act the part, right down to the lurid names and face paint. Granted, the songs here are fast and furious, with no shortage of thrashy riffs, manic drums, and growling vocals, but this is nothing you haven't heard before, and better. Some of the riffs are catchy and inventive, but the lead work is pretty unimaginative, as many of the guitar solos just sound like they were simply dropped in, and in most cases feature pointless whammy bar noodling. I can totally see what this band is trying to accomplish, and there's no doubt they are having a blast attempting it, but honestly they need a little work. A little more variety to their arrangements, maybe a mixing of vocal styles, better production, and more attention to the lead guitar work, should help this band immensely the next time around.
