Nights Like These: The Faithless

Victory Records have themselves quite a find here with Tennessee's Nights Like These. The Faithless combines elements of death metal, hardcore, and technical prog-metal, and will instantly appeal to fans of bands like Mastodon, Between the Buried and Me, The Red Chord, Black Dahlia Murder, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Into the Moat. With pulverizing and technical riff-o-rama obliterating the listener from every angle, bashing rhythms, and gutteral screams, Nights Like These hold nothing back, playing their brand of powerful metal with a hunger and conviction that's hard to ignore. Tracks like "Head of Medusa", "Ghost Town Rituals", and "Bury the Messenger" throw a relentless barrage of intense guitar savagery at the listener, while "We Were Meant for Ruin" features galloping rhythms and plenty of lethal death metal screams. The stop-start guitar breakdowns and intricate drum work on "Let the Waters Overtake Us" show just how technical these guys can get, and honestly I'd love to hear what these guys could do with some longer songs. Since many of the pieces here are in the 3-minute range (and a few that are less than 2-minutes) this album is roughly 25 minutes long, which might be a tad short for many. The band has boatloads of talent and an overall intimidating sound that is sure to turn a lot of heads, and it will be interesting to watch them develop.
