Danish band Zenith have put together a fun metal CD here that crosses over into many different sub-genres such as death, black, power, prog, grind, and metalcore. Fairly technical yet with plenty of groove laden rhythms, Zenith lay to waste any thoughts of classification on songs such as "1-2-3 Imprisoned For Life", which combines the extreme vocal delivery of Akercocke with the metallic sludge of Soilent Green or Pantera, plus the technical precision of Meshuggah and Dream Theater. There's plenty of driving and riff laden tunes, such as "Desert World" and the memorable "Humanimosity", but they can also bludgeon you with chaotic off the wall tracks like "Zenitology" and "Give Me 'Till Tomorrow" much like Strapping Young Lad, complete with a never ending supply of clean, growling, and shrieking vocals. It's when the band shows their moody and progressive side on the lengthy pieces "It's Raining Blood" and "Tormentality" that they really show their stuff, proving that there's some subtlety amongst all the chaos. Overall, this is a very promising release from a band that has a lot to offer for both the extreme and progressive metal crowds.
