Death metal band Vile tackle chaos and warfare head on with their third full length release aptly titled The New Age Of Chaos. While the band has gone through various lineup changes throughout the years, founding member/ producer and guitarist Colin Davis has remained and injected some new blood into the band for this go around. This CD lyrically deals with the scenario of a war between the West and Islamic terrorists, sung in true death metal style growling by vocalist Juan Urteaga. Urteaga's vocals are indiscernible for the most part as is often the case with bands of this genre; however one look at the lyrics printed within the booklet show that the band is capable of writing intelligent lyrics based upon the subject at hand. Davis also recruits some guest guitarists to show up and add solos to many of the tracks and there are enough, good solid riffs and grooves to keep the most die hard death metal fan satisfied. For the most part the riffs avoid being derivative, something a lot of bands fall victim to. I would say that all in all this is a pretty solid release for Vile, however if there is one drawback, it's the overall length of the CD itself, which clocks in at a mere thirty minutes. Asking the consumer to shell out the price of a full length for what basically amounts to an EP's worth of material may be a little hard for some fans to swallow.
