Oddtomatic is an all-instrumental four piece band from Finland creating melodic mid-tempo guitar and keyboard driven songs. The band has a good melodic sensibility that reminds me of a blend of Camel and Jadis. The addition of flute in “Interlude” makes for a beautifully haunting 4 minutes of music. “Hypertramp attempts to shift gears and rock things up a bit, and there is a break in the song that reminds me of Supertramp, perhaps the reasoning behind the song title? There are some odd transitions and a few fadeout endings that leave the songs feeling unfinished. This seems to be the weakness here, some interesting ideas that maybe need to germinate more before being recorded. The music is never overly complex, melody is the focus throughout. The disc clocks in at an extremely short 26 minutes, and they definitely made a good first impression.
