Jordan Red: Hands That Built The World

The concept of Jordan Red is rooted in the band's need to seek out the truth by viewing reality through a ‘red pill’ lens. The character behind the band name was created by combining the first name of clinical psychologist Dr Jordan B Peterson and the idea of taking the Red Pill as portrayed in pop culture classic film ‘The Matrix’. The main protagonists behind this idea come in the shape of guitarist Dan Baker and New Device frontman Daniel Leigh, with the duo joined by As Lions rhythm section Conor O’Keefe (bass) and Dave Fee (drums).

In terms of giving this concept a musical structure, it would be fair to suggest that Jordan Red are pretty much noughties specialists - with a few touches of the nineties thrown in for good measure. The results could be described as intelligent hard rock, but that makes things sound much stuffier than they really are, with a gritty undercurrent allowing the likes of “Spilling My Blood” to really hit home, but with the excellent Leigh (if you haven’t checked out New Device you really should) adding his melodic but impactful vocal tones the effect is multi-faceted. “Beautiful Monsters” finds a punky edge bolstered by an Alter Bridge strut, while it’s the banks of vocals - along with some cool synths and atmospheric guitars - that really make you take notice of “Don’t Let The Heavens Fall”. With the correct exposure, we’re talking massive hit material right here. Then “It Calls My Name” proves that Jordan Red can also get their message across in more measured style, while “Way Down” is equally impressive, combining a cracking riff and chorus to some more considered sections.

As debuts go Hands That Built The World knows exactly what it’s all about and also how to bring you along on what is an intriguing musical and lyrical journey. With their marker laid down, what comes next could be very tasty indeed.
