Jorn: Over the Horizon Radar

Jorn Lande really should not need any introduction to any self respecting rock fan, as he’s been around the block more times than most of us have had hot dinners!!

His latest offering comes via the Frontiers stable and I was hoping that this album didn’t befall a lot of the Frontiers releases where the artist is stripped of any individuality and ends up sounding rather generic and ultimately somewhat bland.

The opening (title) track has all the hallmarks that one would come to expect from Lande, his vocals soar quite beautifully, but it’s all brought down to a level of ordinariness with a song that is full of the usual tropes that seem to fill just about every Frontiers release that I encounter these days.

And it pains me to say that the majority of the album it just that. On the surface its big, and glossy but there`s little or no spark to the majority of the songs. Some tracks do fare better than others `My Rock N Roll` offers up a set of dynamics that a lot of the other material could do with taking on board, and` Ode To The Black Nightshade` and `Winds of home` both see Lande at his most potent...more of this please, but I was just left feeling unfulfilled with what was on offer and with a vocalist such as Lande, I feel it’s an opportunity missed, and by some distance too.
