Voidceremony: At The Periphery Of Human Realms (EP)

Voidceremony are a band that is composed of members from several continents and yet have managed to bring to life something both arcane and infernal yet also technical and raw. Following on the heels of their Debut album and acting as a bridge to their future sophomore album At The Periphery Of Human Realms serves to remind their fans of where they are currently at musically speaking.

At The Periphery Of Human Realms is rather short and sweet, kicking of with the debut title albums namesake “Entropic Reflections Continuum” which combines blackened death metal with technical elements and a do it yourself analog sound combined with the somewhat out of place guitar wizardry of the amazing Phil Tougas, who is known for his band's First Fragment and Chthe'ilist among others. He is no stranger to the bleaker end of the metal world but when he solos here it sounds very much like First Fragment mixed with the blackened death. A somewhat strange combination but it works and it’s always a pleasure to hear him playing. Next is a short interlude track that doesn’t really go anywhere so kinda pointless really and finally the band gives us “Tenebrous Lucidity” which again uses the elements I mentioned above but with perhaps 10% more weirdness added into the dankness. Mostly provided by Australian bass player Damon Good. Garret Johnson is the frontman and guitarist and keeps the cavernous bleakness alive even through the more technical sections. Of course when Phil takes off with his chorus drenched guitar solo it’s instantly recognizable as him and again it seems a little out of place but again I’m always happy to hear him play.

Anyway, At The Periphery Of Human Realms is a fun EP which leaves you hungry for more, which I guess is the point, but it would have been nice to get at least one or two more songs.
