Vuola: Under Above Orion Venus Loves

Finnish musician/producer Jussi Vuola is coming out with his debut album Alouv this spring, and the first single “Under Above Orion Venus Loves� was released on March 17th of this year. The song is an introspective ballad of sorts, with beautiful vocal harmonies, extremely catchy hooks, and an unbeatable atmosphere. It reminds me both of a 90’s alternative song in the likes of R.E.M or Radiohead, and of a 60’s psych track from a band like the Moody Blues. I am really into this song currently. I have been listening to it over and over, and it gets better every time.

Instrumentally, the song is quite simple. The guitar part is mostly strummed chords, and the drums and bass are tame as well. All the music creates a wall of sound and trance-like atmosphere. I feel like I’m in a dream world as I listen to song. This is also largely because of the beautiful vocals by Vuola. He has a very smooth voice, and the melodies that he sings are instant ear worms. I also love the harmonies that he layered on the track, as they make it feel extremely full. My favorite parts of the song are the verses. It is mostly just one smooth vocal track, but about halfway through, the harmonies come in, and it is gorgeous. The production is also seamless. Everything sounds extremely clear and vibrant. The production especially sounds reminiscent of the 90’s, with the reverb filled and melancholy sound.

Overall, this single is fantastic. I think that it is a sign of great things coming from Vuola, and I can’t wait for the album to come out. I’m interested to see if other songs on the album get heavier, or if it keeps this same tone. Either way, I have a feeling that I will really like it, being the quality of this track was so strong. I highly recommend giving it multiple listens. It gets better every time.
