NoCheez Orchestra: Musings In Three Movements

Ronnie Neuhauser is a vastly underrated musician which I discovered this year after reviewing a few CDs from his various projects including Fe Fi Fo, The Styrocultural Antidote, and the NoCheez Orchestra. Here is his 2013 NoCheez Orchestra release titled Musings In Three Movements.

You need to be forewarned the vocals will not be for everyone and there will be many who will not appreciate Neuhausers’ whacky side, he certainly has some Frank Zappa in his blood. Heavy guitar and neat muted notes highlight the album opening “Mr. Clean Genes�, although the vocals are pretty weird in this one. Jazzy vocals and a first-rate drum and bass groove make “Bygones� a fun listen. The textural guitar work and ripping solo in “Water Colors� and the heavy fusion in “Speaking in Dumb� with its awesome bass line are some cool moments, although I could do without the silly vocalizations in the latter. The pleasant pop sophistication of “Plea� where Trisha Radil’s slightly husky vocals shine and the instrumental “Then There Was Consciousness� with its contrasting acoustic and electric guitar are both fine listens.

Sure, the vocals can be a little outside the norm at times but there should be no doubting the talent that went into this album. By all means check it out.
