Debauchery: Monster Metal

Monsters, Riffs and Death 'N Roll combined into one basket of hell eventually leads to the costume wearing German Death Metal Debauchery. Believe it or not this is the devilish outfits seventeenth release (their forth as a split) and the music evidently just keeps on rolling out year by year.

Featuring the ferociously minded Thomas 'The Bloodbeast' Gurrath (ex-Eternal Glory, Blood God, Balgeroth), Debauchery escort their themes of death, blood and war into a inferno contain two bonus discs from neighbouring Death 'N Roll bands Balgeroth and Blood God (featuring Gurrath too), delivering these songs in the German language and as a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock subsidiary that adds quite a neat touch to the record as an extra part of the package.

Moreover, Debauchery give us a taste of what they are all about right from the get go and it arrives as a very paint by numbers wavelength in terms of this particular genre or style. Do not get me wrong, there are some real fun tracks dwelling amongst the masses on this particular offering, however it does get repetitive at the best of times as you sometimes cannot distinguish one riff from another and what song is what.

Highlights ride forth in the name of tracks like the catchy cruncher 'Metal to the Bone' and the rough n' ready bruiser 'Hate Kill Murder'; keeping things moving along with a complete wave of enthusiasm and those thrills of enjoyment fanatics will look for.

Also, an honourable mention must be awarded to the heavyweight hording opener 'Bloodking' featuring the one and only Heavy Metal vocal legend Tim 'The Ripper' Owens (KK's Priest, ex-Iced Earth, ex-Judas Priest, Beyond Fear, Charred Walls of the Damned, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, ex-Winters Bane) that essentially delivers extremely well as a grande welcoming to the paths of the Debauchery Warmachine.

In the fiery brunt of things lies the title track 'Monster Metal', expressing some more realms of catchiness in the foreground but can come across on the more repetitive side of the tracks appearing once again. Same can be sincerely said for a few more of the episodes on Monster Metal, however do not be fooled by this as these songs will still get stuck in your head time and time again, and yes, they have that kind of effect.

All in all, a solid effort from the German Death N' Roll tribe, not a perfect one but a good one to say the least. If you like the gruffly Death Metal genre alongside a pure smothering of Hard Rock N' Roll and just a big celebration of enjoyably fun hard-hitting anthems then this is definitely for you. Monster Metal is most definitely a costume party of growls that are spread as a simply way too scary concoction for a Halloween night and it is a really clever idea for a band or bands in this instance as a smart creative way of methodology for Heavy Metal music.
