Nocheez Orchestra: War and Pom Poms

Nocheez Orchestra is a project led by guitar maestro Ronnie Neuhauser who is involved in a couple other projects, Fe Fi Fo and The Styrocultural Antidote. Both are worth checking out. With the Nocheez Orchestra’s album titled War and Pom Poms, originally released in 2006, Neuhauser is joined by Fred Melillo (fretless bass, percussion on 6), Jeffrey Halloran (vocals), Jason Gavin (drums and percussion) and Trisha Radil (vocals).

The music presented on War and Pom Poms veers towards a more eclectic brand of rock with jazzy and progressive undertones. The musicianship is excellent throughout. The disc begins with “Mr. Mouth”, a rocking and energetic slice of off kilter rock yet still very catchy with a great vocal arrangement and stellar guitar work. For a little country the super catchy “Burned By The Bush (Set Free II)” should do the trick or if you are in the mood for a funky vibe with a little humour thrown in try “Simplex One (The Toxification)”. One of the best tracks has to be the reggae/hard rocking “Periphery” where Neuhauser’s guitar solo is unbelievably intense, easily one of the album’s highlights.

War and Pom Poms is another diverse and highly eclectic work showcasing excellent musicianship and another fine batch of songs that will take some time to fully digest but will be worth it in the end. Recommended.
