Vox Tempus: Vox Tempus (demo)

Enjoyable if formulaic, polished melodic heavy prog reminiscent of Enchant, Lemur Voice and Inside Out-era Fates Warning. Wow! Has Dan Reed got some DeYoung vocal moves down or what? This goes mainly for "Revelations" — the man's got some lungs, and varies pitch without slipping off the precipice into la villa vibratto. It would be nice if he took more cues from Dennis, and Geoff Tate, and didn't always aim high. "For Every Life" sounds like a song that's supposed to be on Enchant's Wounded but was left off inexplicably. Former DLR and Satriani skinman Gregg Bissonette steels the grooves for Reed, guitarist Ray Mantor, bassist Jim Turba, and keyboardist Eric Ragno, who lays down some nifty synth solos, particularly those on the seven minute-plus "What About." The full-length Vox Tempus album In The Eye Of Time should provide a better gauge for this fivesome's attack.
