Gentle Savage: Introduction

The brilliantly named Tornado Bearstone ( lead vocals and guitar) is the leader of Finland's Gentle Savage and he's joined by Mark Mayfield (guitar & bc vocals), Jambe Amebe (drums & bc vocals), Vance Flow (bass & bc vocals) and L.A Arthur (keyboard & bc vocals.) Introduction is a three track EP which, well…acts an introduction to Gentle Savage as a band. I thought we could have a roundtable with the band for each track – so here goes…

Gentle Savage: "Bring Back Rock 'N' Roll" A very catchy and pop kind of a rock song with a definite sing along chorus. A perfect piece for a new listener to get into our music." SoT: It sounds like the Quireboys and that's always a good thing. Definitely tuneful and Stonesy in places.

Gentle Savage: "Far Side" represents the darker side of our repertoire. A topical, much heavier tune compared to the other two songs on the EP. Packed with odd vocal decisions, very up to date story and an epic guitar solo. If you like gloomy atmospheres this song might end up on your playlist." SoT: Funky and indeed heavier, less immediate than the other two tracks but one which slowly disseminates power over repeated listens.

Gentle Savage: "HeyHeyHeyHey" is our way of respecting the roots of rock music and rock culture. It tells a story of rolling out on the road and the joy of playing gigs. It's an authentic take on classic southern rock." SoT: The vocals are more mannered on this one and it has a 70s vibe to it. It's a bit throwaway but fun and I am certainly interested in seeing what the band can do over a full length album.
