Singer Nick Workman says of Who We Are, "We wear our love of 80's rock music on our sleeve, but we also have injected our love of modern rock music to it. We aren't trying to rehash anything: the sound we have achieved is 100% VEGA. We didn't want to try and guess what people expect and get it wrong." Alongside Tom Martin – guitars, Daniel Chantrey – drums, James Martin – keyboards and Marcus Thurston – guitars, Workman has produced a hook-laden gem of an album which, in cracking tunes like "Generation Now" certainly harks back to the 80s but add a modern toughness.
It's very obvious why the members of this band are in demand to provide tunes for other artists as the quality of their writing is sky high. I noted in my review for their previous album Stereo Messiah that some of their material isn't quite as immediate as classic AOR, however, I now find this a strength because when the chorus of say "Saving Grace" eventually kicks in it is more than worth waiting for. The main (only) fault I can find with this excellent album is that Workman's vocals are a tad low in the mix and could have been more at the forefront of things but that's a minor quibble.
