If you are a death metal fan, it won't be hard to gush over that awesome cover art courtesy of Ed Repka on this new EP from Gruesome, titled Dimensions of Horror. The bands 2015 debut Savage Land took the metal world by storm with their brand of classic Death inspired death metal, and they once again visit the style created by the late Chuck Schuldiner on these six crushing tunes. Comprised of guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed), guitarist & vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Dekapitator), bassist Robin Mazen (Derekta), and drummer Gus Rios (Ex-Malevolent Creation), Gruesome dial back to the late '80s/early '90s Florida death metal scene, specifically Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy era Death, as evident by such neck snappers as "Hellbound", "Forces of Death", and "Raped by Darkness". The venomous title track contains a killer riff, blazing lead guitars, and relentless drum blasts, while "Amputation" and "Seven Doors" both offer plenty of brutality to go along with lurid lyrical themes. None of the songs here pass the 4-minute length, so expect brief but to the point pummeling, no nonsense old school styled death metal.
Back to that cover art...very cool, and once again, if you want to cement that 'old school' vibe, who better to call on than the legendary Ed Repka, whose artwork has adorned so many classic metal albums over the years. Coupled with the excellent songs, it all makes this EP from Gruesome a complete winner.
