Visions of Atlantis: Old Routes - New Waters

Visions of Atlantis have been a mainstay of the Napalm Records roster for years, and here we have their brand new EP for the label, a 5 track affair titled Old Routes-New Waters. With the recent shake-up of the bands line-up, which now consists of Clementine Delauney & Siegfried Samer on vocals, guitarist Werner Fiedler, keyboard player Chris Kamper, bassist Mike Koren, and founding member Tom Caser on drums, the band have decided here to dip into their back catalog and re-record some classics from their first three albums with the new revamped line-up. Tales of the sea, featuring dueling male & female vocals, crunchy guitar work, symphonic keys, and epic arrangements are the name of the game for Visions of Atlantis, and superb representations of their style can he heard on gems such as "Seven Seas", "Lovebearing Storm", and the engaging "Lost". The vocals here are superb, and while you really have to like the more operatic style that this band brings to the table, it's not hard to get swept away by what's on display here. Though only 5 tracks, this is a good cross section of their classic material, with the more upbeat tunes already mentioned mixing with the mid-tempo rocker "Last Shut of Your Eyes" and the gorgeous ballad "Winternight" rounding out the set quite nicely. While the world waits for their upcoming full length album, this is a cool little stopgap to get everyone introduced to the new version of the band.
