Sunrise: Absolute Clarity

Sunrise hail from Kiev, Ukraine and have recently released their third full length album Absolute Clarity. There two previous releases, Liberty (2007) and Trust Your Soul (2009) come highly touted in the power metal genre even though the band is far from a household name. Maybe things will change with the new album.

What you get here is power metal done in the Scandinavian tradition with catchy speed metal riffs and solid lead vocals. The first track "Tower Of Fear" is just what you would expect from solid power metal, all catchy riffs, rapid fire drumming and big swells of keyboards. On "Star Ocean" the tempo is a little slower, although not too much and the neo classical guitar shredding demonstrates solid musicianship. "Live In Peace" is another slice of melodic power metal opening with a crisp keyboard melody whereas the catchy "Prayer For You" is one of the best tunes on the disc with its moody keyboards and solid lead vocals.

There are really no bad tracks here as Sunrise has put forth a very nice effort in what has become a very saturated genre. They aren't breaking any new ground but these songs are just so darn tuneful the band doesn't need to. Fans of melodic metal will surely want to give this one a spin.
