Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus: The Child Must Die

This album came out several months ago, but it didn't fall into many hands and there are things worth discussing here. Musically, things are a pretty straightforward version of extreme metal with the occasional ambient / instrumental interlude. The heavier components were played well enough, but the vocals were too raspy and hard to understand. Normally, I would defend this vocal style a little more, but I was genuinely interested in following the band's extensive use of The Kalevala in the lyrics. I know that other bands use Finnish folklore and mythologyand that that it may not seem like anything very special this time around. Still, I admired the band's intensity at retelling those stories both in the music and in the lyrics. The album's artwork, both on the outside and the inside of the CD packaging, is also completely drawn from The Kalevala. I'm no expert on Finnish folklore, but I greatly admired this band's effort to do so much with it and I think others may be as well.
