:KTONIK: is the latest release from the Polish Prog Metal band, Votum. Dark and dripping with atmosphere, this new record delivers both power and elegance in a 9 track effort that is full of musical diversity with subtle cinematic qualities.

With this 4th album, :KTONIK:, Votum, who consists of Zbigniew Szatkowski - Keyboards, Adam Kaczmarek - Guitars, Adam Łukaszek - Drums, Bart Sobieraj - Vocals, Bart Turkowski - Bass and Piotr Lniany – Guitar, continue to fly the flag for what has become known in circles as the, "New Wave of Polish Prog". Their musical style of Prog is reminiscent of Riverside and Porcupine Tree delivered with vocals that hint of (believe it or not) a Gavin Rossdale of Bush! Those haunting type vocals suit this music quite well and create a great texture against the dark and almost eerie power that is Votum. Songs like the CD opener, "Satellite", showcase Votum's vast use of slow building texture and heavy riffed tension, as they build a landscape in your mind and a track like, "Blackened Tree", with it's ghostly piano intro and big airy chording continues to carve out their Cinescope vision in your cerebral cortex. This is some profound stuff here.

Melancholy, brooding and limitless is what Votum have delivered with their album, :KTONIK:. This record invokes many thoughts and feelings and boredom is not one of them. :KTONIK: is full of what makes modern Prog Metal so wonderful. Thoughtful and elegant song crafting that takes you on a quest and then spins you in a different direction with wonderful musical interludes, spacious keyboards, powerfully heavy guitars to round out the dank undertones and twists and turns that will make any Prog snob smile. The cover art on :KTONIK: is superbly kewl, as is the immaculate production of the album, it's sonically excellent. Fans of a band like Katatonia will enjoy the hell of this new Votum release, it is a great exploration.
