I am aware of members of the species who find this album to be amongst the best things in recent memory – quite a few actually. Therefore I was quite pleased to be given the chance to give it a listen and I'm duty bound to say that, overall, I don't really concur. That's not to say that this isn't (faint praise time) well-crafted, Floyd-like, atmospheric and pleasant (and that is definitely faint praise.) Nowhere is this exemplified than in the opening number "Circles" which, despite being powered by distinctively Gilmour-like guitars meanders along in a , well, meandering kind of way – much like the rest of the album. It's tempting to say that the song "Headache" gave me a headache – it's not that bad but just uninvolving which is disappointing as I am sure there is a great album somewhere within Vly.
Vocalist Keith Gladysz (Diet Kong, Typical Reptiles), guitarist/keyboardist/programmer Karl Demata (ex-Crippled Black Phoenix, Karl Demata Band), keyboardist/synth programmer Elisa Montaldo (Il Tempio Delle Clessidre), bassist Chris Heilmann (ex-Crippled Black Phoenix, Bernie Torme', Shark Island) and drummer/keyboardist Mattias Olsson (ex-Änglagård. White Willow, Necromonkey) apparently collaborated over the world wide web and perhaps if/when they get in a room together the magic will really spark.
