Voodoo Hill: Waterfall

The 3rd release from the band Voodoo Hill, Waterfall (Frontiers Music SRL) once again features the talents of Italian guitarist Dario Mollo and the incomparable vocals from the one and only Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, Black Sabbath, Trapeze, California Breed).

Waterfall is an 11 track effort that finds Hughes returning to a more straightforward Heavy Rock that Mollo was able to write for this record. Combining elements of 70's Hard Rock, 80's riffing and thrown together with a modern touch of Melodic Metal is what you will find in this great release from this duo. The nasty distorted groove of "The Wall", to the equally as bad ass riffing in "Rattle Shake Bone", show guitarist Mollo in top form with his Lynch/Aldrich type of tasty playing. "Eldorado" has a catchy as hell chorus that absolutely get stuck in your head, while "Underneath and Down Below" has an almost ominous, Led Zep vibe to it.

Glenn Hughes of course, shines on everything that his golden throated self is attached to, with a for sure highlight being the tender power ballad and title track, "Waterfall". Hughes at 63 years of age out sings almost everyone in the Rock realm of things and this is another testament to the marvel that is Hughes in in his 5th decade of recording.

Waterfall is a great piece of Heavy Rock from two excellent musicians who have made the best Voodoo Hill release to date. It is a nice combo of aggressive and melodic, but man oh man does Glenn Hughes steal the show with his glorious, emotive vocals. There IS a reason that he's called "The Voice of Rock". Waterfall is a heavy Classic Rock album that is well written and excellently performed throughout and you will find yourself listening to it over and over again.
