Grindhouse came to being in 2006 when guitarist Piero Ventimiglio moved to Sicily. He quickly made contact with local musicians and made friends with fellow guitarist Stefano Martolini. They shared an interest in and a love for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. They decided to form an Iron Maiden tribute band and enlisted Francesco Missale on drums, Luca Romano on bass and vocalist Federico Cappello. Giorgio Calabrese was later added to the line-up to boost the guitar quota, in the summer of 2013, contact was made with Michael Bormann (Jaded Heart), who agreed to participate in the project, singing all vocals on the CD. Now in 2015 here is Chapter One.
Sadly, despite the undoubted care and love which has gone in to the album you know when the annoying hard rock cover version – in this case Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" – is the best track on the album, that things aren't all ticketty boo. The originals aren't (see what I did there?) The album is populated with by-the-numbers hard modern rock, none of which are overly memorable and in some cases just tiresome ("Nothing Gonna Stop Me".) It pains me to pan this around the room but perchance if the band had followed their passion for Iron Maiden this would have been better as there's obvious musical proficiency on show but the songs, other than "The Stunt" just aren't up to snuff.
