Native Construct: Quiet World

Robert Edens – vocals, Myles Yang – guitar and Max Harchik – bass, are the members of Native Construct and their story began 2011 at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2014, the band's music caught the ear of Brian Slagel at Metal Blade Records; this led to a recording contract and a worldwide release of the band's debut album, Quiet World. There's a story, nay a concept behind the album according to the band, "Quiet World is about a guy who loves a girl. The guy is a bit of an odd and eccentric person – an outcast. He's also a mute, and a little unstable, as it turns out. The girl doesn't return his feelings, but he can't bring himself to let go."

Just from looking at the band one can tell that they will be playing a modern version of prog metal and indeed they do. For me the most affecting track is "Your Familiar Face" which echoes the playful nature of classic 70's Queen and is just excellent. The middle of the album is particularly strong as "Come Hell or High Water" appears next and mixes jazzy touches alongside death metal growls and epitomizes the eclectic nature of this independently recorded effort which strongly points to a bright future for Native Construct. I would also like to give special props to the top quality cover art as well.
