In Faith: There's A Storm Coming

Alongside the new album from Melodic Rock veterans Ten, There's A Storm Coming from In Faith forms the opening salvo from new UK Melodic Hard Rock label Rocktopia and if this is the standard of release they're aiming at, then we they're set to be a valuable addition to the scene. However for now let's revel in the cracking introduction from In Faith, who are the trio of Tony Marshall (Vaughn, Pride) on guitars, Pete Newdeck (Tainted Nation, Eden's Curse, Newman) on drums and newcomer Pete Godrey, who puts in a mighty shift behind the mic.

Few can doubt that there's a huge amount of acts out there right now rehashing 80s ideas and yet it takes a band such as In Faith to truly remind us why so many still hold the era of huge hooks, chanted choruses and slick guitar licks so dear. For while you can doubtless hear the likes of Harem Scarem, Winger, FM, Danger Danger or Tyketto in what this outfit fire out, the sheer passion and believability with which In Faith deliver their goods makes the punchy "Radio", hip grinding groove of "Does It Feel Like Love", or instantly memorable "In Flames" reasons to rejoice. Godfrey's powerful vocal delivery is fits like a glove perfect for this style, husky and deep when the mood requires it, clear and powerful as the melodies soar, yet smooth and engaging as the intensity is lowered to tug at the heartstrings. Why this chap has gone unnoticed for so long really is anyone's guess.

However Marshall isn't overshadowed; riffs driving the songs forward, solos pinpoint punctuations of power as "Million Miles" strides forward confidently, combining piano led sections to crashing guitars, or as "Leave Me Now" illustrates the wonderful balance this album strikes between AOR sheen and Melodic Rock grit. Add in Newdeck's ultra reliable and ever colourful drumming – and, of course, his superb backing vocals – and In Faith not only have all the elements required to make them main players in MHR circles, but crucially, they undoubtedly know how to combine them to stunning effect.

The storm isn't coming, it's arrived and it's called In Faith.
