Sick of it All: The Last Act of Defiance
My son recently had to memorize a poem for school. His choice, Robert Frost's "The Road Less Traveled," quickly became one of his favorite poems. Makes sense—teenagers usually want to think of themselves as going against the grain. When, right after my son memorized the poem, I heard this album and the "Road Less Traveled," I was excited. The hardcore ethos of Sick of it All meets Robert Frost. Why not? It's not only a very human thing to do, taking the road less traveled, it strikes at the heart of what extreme rockers hope to do.
Sick of it All has been going strong in the New York hardcore scene since 1986. Unlike so many bands, they have not slowed things down nor do they show any signs of slacking on their deep critiques of governmental abuse, the seductions of power, and the corruption of big business.
Check out the cover art on this album. It says it all: the snake may strike, even pin us down, but our last act will be a bite like no other.
Want contemporary hardcore by a classic band? This is the album for you.
