Various Artists: Legends-Crank It Up (Audio Fidelity SACD/CD)

As with Audio Fidelity's other FM hits compilation Legends-Get It On, this one, titled Legends-Crank It Up features all these classic rock hits presented in SACD & CD format for the best possible sound. Though the title 'Crank It Up' is kind of misleading, as this is clearly the mellower set of the two, many of the songs included here falling into the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the mostly hard rock fare on the 'Get It On' set. The only bands who make a repeat appearance are Foreigner with "Feels Like the First Time", The Doobie Brothers with their classic "Listen to the Music", and oddly enough Grateful Dead and their groove laden "Truckin' ". Some nice surprises, like Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty", Little Feat's "Dixie Chicken", and the excellent R&B/pop tune "How Long" by the little known Ace. '80s hits like Phill Collins' "In the Air Tonight" and The Pretenders' "Back on the Chain Gang" don't really fit alongside "Nights in White Satin", "Daniel", "Love the One You're With", or "Sister Golden Hair", but hey, that's just me. Any FM hits set that has Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" is ok with me. This here is another compilation of songs we've all heard many times before, but it's neat hearing them all together in one place with enhanced sound.
