One man Italian black metal act Vardan hasn't wasted any time following up the recent The Woods Is My Coffin with this new platter for Moribund Records titled Enjoy of Deep Sadness. Consisting of just three extended tracks totaling 36 minutes, Enjoy of Deep Sadness (Vardan's 12th release!) accomplishes just what this guy does best, and that is deliver cold, chilling, textured black metal that is surprisingly melodic & atmospheric at the same time. "A Broken Existence" rumbles along with plodding drum work, repetitive, jagged guitar riffs, and Vardan's evil, raspy vocals, and the title cut takes a more doom laden approach with dense textures and chilling vocals. More of the same can be heard on the closer "An Abstract Voice", though the vocals here are even more effective, icy, menacing, and agonizing, cutting right through your very soul. Overall this is pretty thought provoking, moody black metal, certainly a change of pace for those who might normally listen to the more maniacal, frenzied style that we hear so much of these days. Good stuff from a guy that keeps spitting 'em out and shows no sign of slowing down.
