Watch Husky Burn: Garnet

Previously known in the Stoner Rock world as, Husky, the now Watch Husky Burn have released a new instrumental disc aptly named, Garnet, as a tribute to Garnet Amplifiers, the little known Canadian made tube amp company that went out of business in 1989, (used by Neil Young & Lenny Kravitz) that were used to make this 7 track record.

Recorded in the Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, N.C., the now named Watch Husky Burn have released a much more experimental and layered approach to their Stoner Rock themed approach. The trio managed to create a lavish and psychedelic blues based record with an almost storytelling feel, as tracks like "Icewater Mansions" makes the listener feel, with its delayed soaked sensibilities and contrasting fuzz guitar brashness. Tunes are thick and full of hazy goodness, like the brooding, "In a Vacuum", which was improvised in a single take by Mark Hadden, Nate Wilkinson and Phil Strickland, who make up Watch Husky Burn.

Garnet is a rich and full sounding record that is steeped with a '70's vibe of airiness and spatial freedom that just flows freely from track to track. It is filled with a fuzzy and crunchy haze that paints a picture amid the chords and riffage. A song like, "Wheels", has the feel and synthesized pulse of Pink Floyd meets Queens of the Stone Age in all of its dirty sludginess that serves as a marker to what these guys are all about; creating a tapestry. Garnet is a good listen and takes you an almost quiet place in your mind where you are able to just experience the Bluesy-Rockin' Stoner textures that Watch Husky Burn put forth.
