There seems to be no shortage of solid female fronted psychedelic/doom/stoner bands popping up on the scene these days, and Nashville act Season of Arrows is another one that you'll want to add to your must hear list. Their self-titled debut for The Path Less Traveled Records features 9 songs that pack a heavy punch and highlight the soaring vocals of Stormie Wakefield. The crushing riffs are delivered by Brandon Shepard &
David Gates, with Shawn Van Dusen (bass/Back-Up Vocals), and Brad Lawson (drums) providing the powerful grooves. Images of Black Sabbath, Jefferson Airplane, The Sword, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Melvins, and ISIS permeate the album, as tracks such as "The Loved One", "Ox Blood", "Columns" and "Submersible" not only bash you alongside the head with massive power, but also mystify and deliver haunting soundscapes. Wakefield's angelic, hypnotic vocals float over some monstrous doom riffs on the potent "Sleepwalkers", while the atmospheric "Trace Elements" is as dreamy as it is heavy. Speaking of heavy, the frightening closer "Rival" has some of the most crushing riffs on the album, as Wakefield goes from soft crooning to piercing screams.
Good stuff all around on this debut from Season of Arrows, so make sure you check out their brand of psychedelic doom & stoner rock. A band to keep a close eye on.
