Colossus of Destiny is not only the name of an experimental live album by the Melvins, but also the name of relatively new sludgecore band out of Paris. If you like the Melvins, don't listen to this album expecting a tribute. These guys aren't trying to be the Melvins, they mostly just have a strong name in common.
Fans who listen to this album will find it to be a strong and aggressive collection of songs that have more in common with the kind of metal coming out of Georgia these days. Fans of bands like Chevelle, Kylesa, Taint, and early Mastodon will probably find something here to enjoy. Even better, these guys currently have their album available at no cost on bandcamp.
The best thing about Colossus of Destiny is that they work up some pretty solid jams. From start to finish, the songs here feature aggressive guitar passages that sound like they are ready to burst from the speakers and wander about the streets. The early tracks are especially strong in this regard. They just pounce on the readers with speed and power, infectious energy. Some of the songs have a slightly slower tempo that is no less powerful. Give this one a spin!
