Visit, The: Between Worlds

The Visit is the pairing of Raphael Weinroth-Browne on cello, and vocalist Heather Sita Black. Some might remember Raphael from his other alter ego, the progressive death metal juggernaut Cholera, who released a stunning little recording a few years back titled Prophecies of Annihilation. Between Worlds is a complete about face, a near 15-minute long track of haunting cello melodies over which Heather soars and mourns. Metal it certainly isn't, but more in the line of operatic chamber music...sort of. Musically speaking, some of the cello arrangements are pretty complex and have an aggressive edge to them that will perhaps appeal to prog & metal fans alike, as well as classic & avant-garde lovers. Heather has a lovely voice, though she's not as much singing lyrics here as simply, well, vocalizing. It's chilling stuff at times, and certainly different, with some really skillful cello excursions along the way.
