A riveting progressive power metal album is awaiting anyone who delves into Vital Science's debut. Titled Imaginations Of The Subject Of Infinity this is one wickedly catchy new release. Like Symphony X and other progressive bands of that style Vital Science's music is of quite a heavy nature, their songs are also melodic and technically challenging with great use of keyboards complemented with vocals in that edgier clean style.
"Overture" is an orchestral appetiser that should have been longer, this enchanting keyboard performance is just so cool. Creating the kind of music that sweeps you away and this fitting inclusion is a significant part of the reason that I have always been drawn to metal bands like Fairyland and Adagio. The rest of the band get on board for "Bridge Of Sorrow" and Vital Science present the first taste of their heavy progressive music. The dexterous keyboard input and their potent skilful dual guitar line-up play a significant role while the bass and crafty drumming lock in to provide the rock solid foundations. "The Last Trail" and "Endless Sky" are more inviting tracks while "Truth Be Told" is another well constructed slick heavy number. The drums/guitar duplication sounds so effective and all powerful at the beginning of "Fallen From Grace" and you cannot fail to mention those crafty solos, "Black Judgement Day" also packs in so much wonderful music that given the skilful musicianship on show you wouldn't think this was Vital Science's debut.
Closing with "The Curtains Fall" and I seriously doubt it will be for long as once Vital Science's songs attain the level of exposure that they deserve then those curtains will surely rise again and again.
